We are committed to the integration of all medical modalities from East to West, Allopathic to Alternative, and Traditional to Modern. We love a challenge and can't wait to work with you.

DR. LACI ETHIER

Hi, I'm Laci and I am a DTCM, R.Ac practicing in the Calgary area. I am a member of the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta. As a practitioner I incorporate multiple modalities and skill sets in order to treat complex health conditions. My care plans are based on the principles of primary prevention and health promotion. My passion is to care for others and help you cope with whatever has led you to Miywasin Wellness.

I am a born and raised wanderer of the Canadian backcountry. If I am not lost in a book you will often find me climbing, hiking, or camping somewhere amongst the trees in Alberta or Saskatchewan. I am a proud to be Indigenous and my spirituality lies within our traditions. Along with Traditional Chinese Medicine, I incorporate many values of the First Nations into my daily lifestyle. I truly believe in the importance of giving back to the plants, the earth, and the animals for all they provide to us. Whether it be travel, music, art, medicine, or people; I feel I have a natural curiosity and consider myself to be a lifelong learner.

My interest in the medical sciences developed in my late teenage years due to having a father coping with multiple cardiac issues and a grandmother who suffered from early onset Alzheimers. I began my career studying the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Red Deer College. I enjoyed the challenge of learning how to care and communicate like a nurse but always felt deep down that something was missing. During this time I dealt with some difficult health issues that challenged me to seek out alternative resources for my own wellbeing. This experience completely changed my perception of healthcare and has changed the course of my life for the better. I believe that my health issues gifted me with my love and fascination for Traditional Chinese Medicine.

I studied to become a DTCM at Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACATCM) and consider it to be one of the happiest times of my life. I loved it so much that I am still immersed in the academic realm of TCM and now work as a Clinical Preceptor at ACATCM. I feel the most myself working in alternative medicine and feel that it is where I belong.  I continued to work in the area of palliative and long term care nursing while I studied to become a DTCM. Immediately after I graduated from school, I was right back in the books studying palliative intensive care strategies with Victoria Hospice so that I could start combining both worlds of medicine.

Immersing myself in both western and eastern therapies allowed for me to understand the best ways to bridge the gap between sciences and provide care from a truly holistic approach. Although I decided that nursing was not a good fit for me, I still incorporate the knowledge, skills, and treatment strategies that I gained from my experience in nursing. Fundamentally, my practice and personal life revolve around the core values of Traditional Chinese Medicine and I consider it to be one of the largest untapped resources for healthcare in Canada.

HISTORY & MISSION

Miywasin Wellness was founded in August 2017 and is operated by Dr. Laci. She was gifted the name Miywasin Wellness by a healer in her community during her second year of studying TCM. Miywasin is a word of sentiment that represents goodness, togetherness, and wellness.

We believe that altruism and integrity are the essence of healing relationships. A healing space encompasses comfort, empathy, and acceptance. As clinicians the main priority is continuity and client focused care. We maintain a high standard of care by adhering to methods of evidence based practice and scientific decision making processes.

We value sharing wisdom with others in order to make an impact on the community as a whole. A goal of ours is to help others find good health habits in hopes of opening the door to working together to meet community needs.

We are dedicated to fostering an environment where individuals feel safe to be who they are, whether that be spiritually, mentally, or physically. We are passionate about maintaining a deeper knowledge of the socio-cultural background of patients, their families and the environments in which they live.

We wish to provide you with heart focused care planning with a doctor who is a healer first and a practitioner second.
